I think betting just bloats the pot in what started out as a simple limped pot, and has the potential to turn it into a monster that never needed to be.

Flop pot shows strength on this board. Do you think villian will bluff any significant number of times.
Also what about missed value against a FD, which these villians never seem to fold?
