Very nice Islander. Betting less than pot so it looks like you are trying to value-town your opponent and not chase him out of the pot is the key to success with the bare ace play. You also need an opponent who will fold of course.

Most weakish calling stations think pot-size bets mean "please fold," so betting the same amount you would with the nuts is very important.

Yep have been workin on my bet sizing lately. I bet 3/4 pot with my bluffs and monsters most of the time depending on villian. Tryin' out inducing bets v. aggro monkeys and pot size value bets on river v. calling stations (they see a pot bet as a bluff). I think all this bet - sizing stuff is very villian dependent though.
