Default Table and Seat Selection

What factors do you guys take into consideration when table and seat selecting?
This I know is a vital skill in a winning poker players repertoire and I'm pretty new to it.

So far I look for
- tables with high plyrs to flop %, low pot
- plyrs I know to be worse than me (bigger fish than me)
- I avoid having a maniac to my immediate left or a player I know to be much better than me

and thats it -

any pointers you guys can give me would be great

You seem to have the basics down. You want the short stacks and tight, predictable players on your left, and the loose-passive/loose-aggressive deep-stacks on your right.

High-VPIP/Low Avg Pot is ideal for a TAG style. Just be sure to have the discipline to leave the table if the wrong type of opponent gets seated on your left.

This is something I didn't do in the past - I usually went to war and had a biggis dickis competition with them. Sometimes I won sometimes not.

I look for big pot avg, am I doing it wrong? I understand that it could be deceiving.

I look for big pots as well and I'm doing just fine. I play good cards in good positions and almost watch the money roll in. Several plo pros look for smallest pots as they can small ball/pound away to victory...and theoretically my style Should work best with small pots...but I digress. If pots are big, it's because villains are aggressive, or they stack off light. I have a great counter-strategy to both so I win more than my fair share of big pots. I also don't allow villains to float me. If you're playing in big-pot games, having the cojones to fire that 2nd/sometimes 3rd barrel is crucial. Also, betting flop/checking turn when strong works great as well.

Why do you want shortstacks to your right? That allows them the best opportunities to exploit you, and forces you to open for less / open fewer hands.

He said to the left..........nice to see your on top of your game still Roy.

For me its basically nits to my left and fish to my right. And I will definitely leave if I have a LAGtard to my left. table selction is one of the most crucial aspects of this game. There is no reason to go to war with a bunch of sharks when there are little fish in the other pond.
